You might be considering homeschooling your children this year. Or maybe, like me, you’re planning on a hybrid or distance learning program with your local school, but are looking for good resources to support your kids education at home. I’ve got 7 great FREE resources that can help you get started on planning your school year however you decide to go.

Khan Academy – This is a free website with a variety of courses for all grade levels. While it’s known for its excellent math instruction, Khan Academy has branched out and will offer Language Arts and history courses for limited grade levels. They also offer middle and high school science, and several coding classes. And its all FREE! We used the math program to support my 4th grade son when our boys had to come home last spring. He loved it and said he understood the explanations better than when his teacher taught him.
Amy Maryon – Plain and Not So Plain homeschool – Amy is the mother to 10 children (I know, bless her sweet cotton socks!) and found that homeschooling curricula was too expensive, so she started writing basic curriculum for math, reading, and writing. She has ALL of her curriculum practice pages (3-5 worksheets a day) for free on her website. These could be excellent tools to have your children practice their skills without having to purchase multiple workbooks. She comes from a traditional Christian background, so keep that in mind as you’re looking thorough her history and Bible curriculum.
Wide Open School is a free resource hub for pre-k all the way to High School. With videos, activities and lots of links, this is a great home base for supporting your child’s education. More than just a link hub, Wide Open School has lessons for life skills, learning differences, and resources for families needing extra support and assistance. The program is secular and visually appealing – it’s a great place to find lots of supplements to build a homeschool curricula or to support you child’s distance education.
Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool – This is considered the go-to for free, beginners homeschool. It does come from a traditionalist Christian perspective, but it really does have everything you need to get started on just about all subjects across all grade levels.
Daily Grammar Lessons – If you’re looking to get some free grammar practice in, or you want a grammar curriculum to go with interest-led reading (which I love!), check out this completely free grammar resource! It’s a bit old-school, but has everything you need to teach grammar concepts from day one. The lessons do require some reading ability, and will need someone to help direct them. But they also come with quizzes to assess what your child is learning, in case you need to keep records.
Nature Journaling – Getting out and exploring the natural world around you is a great resource for teaching science to your kids – and getting a bit of fresh air. Nature Journaling provides a great, interest-led way to teach about ecosystems, animals and plants, and conservation. KC Edventures has a guide to get started as well as links to free printable pages to build your own nature journal.
Kitchen Table Classroom – Looking for art projects to keep little hands busy? Want to add in some arts education to your curriculum? Have a hankering for using crafts to highlight important concepts? The Kitchen Table Classroom has you covered! There are dozens of free craft projects with guides (even video tutorials if you’re not terribly craft, like me!). Additionally, there are a ton of free blank printables (and a gratitude journal!) that can make your lessons more fun. I’ve even added some of these to my personal rotation for story ideas and organizing.
