Welcome!
I’m Brekke, a mom of four – stepmom to 2 boys, and mom to twin girls — juggling a career, creative endeavors, and my kids. I know I’m not the only working mama (or papa!) that’s trying to navigate all the demands on my time and creative wellspring.

My dream is to write novels and have them traditionally published. I want to walk into a bookstore and see a novel I wrote on the shelf (and hey – if it’s adapted into a Netflix movie, all the better!). But I also want to excel in a job I love, while making time for intentional, sustainable living with my family. I want to find balance between all these things I value.
Working Writer Mom was born from a desire to build a community in progress. Not for folks who’ve figured it out (I mean, has anyone?), but for regular people trying to balance jobs, family, and dreams.
I looked around for others that were in my particular groove of life – balancing a career and kids while still hustling for their creative projects. And I couldn’t find my people. Most were child free or hadn’t settled into family life yet. Others had kids that were grown and didn’t need the kind of attention and care that having a house full of younger kids demands. Some where hustling for things that I couldn’t get into, and others had politics and world views that were so different than mine it made it really hard to connect.
I decided to start this blog to create the content I couldn’t find. To create a place for community — for folks to learn from one another about how we can do this balancing act better, and how we can integrate our work and our life not just for balance, but for sustainability.
DON’T FORGET – I run a youtube channel too, where I’m chronicling my life as a working writer mom, and where I will share some of my favorite tips and tricks for getting it all done (and for cleaning up the mess when you can’t get it all done!). I never promise to be perfect, but I do promise to be a work in progress.
I hope you’ll join me!
